The purpose of advisory boards is to act on behalf of our centers by providing advice, making recommendations, and assisting the Center managers and staff in planning, developing, and implementing programs. The Advisory Boards will act as advocates for seniors, assist in publicizing all Senior Center activities including, but not limited to, acquiring financial and/or in-kind donations for activities and programs.

Nomination Process

1. Senior Center Manager and Advisory Board President will select a chairperson to form the Governance Committee. The Governance Committee will identify and recruit candidates.

2. Nominations for upcoming offices are open to all members in good standing who have been active members for a minimum of 6 months.

3. Members wishing to be considered for office must submit an application to hold office to the Governance Committee. The Governance Committee will submit applications to the Center Manager.

4. Once an application for consideration to hold office is approved, their name will be placed on the ballot for voting

5. Approved candidates will be allowed to solicit votes through advertisement, posters, buttons, cookies, etc. provided they are approved by the Center Manager and Governance Committee.

6. Candidates are allowed to post no more than 3 signs each at the center that they plan to seek office. Signage must be removed within 2 days of the election.

Election Process

1. Elections will be held from 8 am to 4 pm.

2. To be elected to office, a candidate must receive the majority of votes.

3. In the event of a tie a run-off election will be held one week after the initial election.

4. Each voting participant, will sign for a ballot in the lobby. Only 1 ballot per member will be given.

5. Every ballot will contain the name(s) of the candidates and the office they seek.

6. Participants will select 1 name only per office.

7. No write-in candidates will be allowed and the ballot will be voided.

8. A ballot box will be located in a designated area.

9. Completed ballots are to be placed in the ballot box for counting. At 5:00 pm on the day of voting, ballots will be collected and counted by Senior Center Manager and Administrative Board.

10. Candidate receiving the majority of votes will be declared the winner and announced the following day.
