Aging Program

Senior Services’ Aging Program is supported by a federal grant managed by the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC). This funding stems from the Older Americans Act (OAA), which Congress enacted in 1965 to address the pressing need for community social services for older adults. The law also established the Administration on Aging (AoA) to oversee these vital grant programs tailored to meet the unique needs of older Americans.

The Programs below are state and federal-funded. Acceptance in the program requires pre-screening; therefore, there may be a wait-list for services.

What We Do

Information & Assistance Specialists serve as potential clients’ initial point of contact, referring them to services within and outside of Clayton County and addressing direct requests from individuals. They also evaluate the individuals’ long-term and short-term needs, identify appropriate resources to meet those needs, provide referrals to the identified resources, and, when necessary, follow up to ensure clients’ individual needs are met.

Case Managers act as the community’s frontline representatives of the Aging Program for seniors. Following a specific set of state and Aging Division guidelines, they determine the eligibility of individuals for our free services, with an average caseload of 80 clients each.

Transportation Services are outsourced through a contracted transportation vendor and encompass demand/response services, dialysis appointments, non-emergency medical appointments, and quality-of-life trips. Senior Center transportation is available to clients in the Congregate Program (Clayton Senior Adult Program).

Home Delivered Meals (Meals on Wheels) collaborates with Open Hands Atlanta to deliver chilled meals to Meals on Wheels clients and frozen lunches to Clayton Senior Adult Program participants at the J. Charley Griswell, Frank Bailey, and Sonna Singleton Gregory Senior Center.

In-Home Care Services are provided through a contracted vendor. In-home care consists of Personal Care and Homemaker services.

Homemakers provide services to seniors who cannot care for their housekeeping needs.

Personal/Respite Care is a service available to caregivers of clients who have been physician-diagnosed with Alzheimer’s/Dementia or clients who cannot tend to their own personal needs.
